First Crochet Sweater

This fun pattern is a great introduction to creating garments using crochet! Students will take classic stitches to the next level using an origami-like technique to create a cozy cardigan for a little one. All students will make the 18-month-old size of the Squared Up Baby Jacket pattern. This pattern is ideal for self-striping yarns which leave very few ends to weave, take the guess work out of color placement, and lead to a brilliant and fun finished project!
Techniques taught include the Magic Ring, how to get gauge, joining techniques, and basic modifications including sleeve and body length.
Prerequisites:
Students should be familiar with the double crochet stitch (US term), chain stitch, and have confidence in reading a pattern. This class is considered Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate level.
Materials needed:
- 2 skeins of Urth Uneek Fingering
- 3.0mm crochet hook OR hook size required to get gauge
- Removable Stitch Markers
- Scissors
- Darning Needle
- Squared Up Baby Jacket by Urth Yarns (please bring printed copy to class for note taking purposes)
